We spent the weekend in the Blue Mountains. Unfortunately, as has happened the last two years we spent up the mountains, the weather was less than perfect, but what are the mountains without a little bit of weather inspired atmosphere.
Mr Perfect is a member of a social golf club, and every year they play a round of golf in Leura. Rather than dragging himself out of bed at sparrow’s fart we make a weekend of it and pack the munchkins into the car and head up with some friends for the weekend. We have found the most beautiful holiday house that we rent and make our weekend home. Almora (check out their website here) has all the atmosphere and character that a mountain holiday house needs, plus it backs onto Wentworth Falls Golf Course, so you feel like the back garden goes on forever.
The Blue Mountains is a garden lovers paradise, and this year we decided to try and actually visit some of the horticultural highlights the Blue Mountains has to offer. The weather has been so bad in previous years that we have just snuggled up in front of the open fire, which was another perfect way to spend a Mountain weekend. With a view and living room like this, it really wasn’t a bad option…
This weekend was the Leura Festival and 12 private gardens were open to the public – what perfect timing! While the boys headed off for their round of golf, the weather held off long enough for us to visit The Everglades in Leura, but more about this in a future post. With three munchkins in tow and the constant threat of rain, garden appreciation was not the most leisurely activity, so it was with a heavy heart that the decision was made to leave the rest of the gardens to another year. We still had the Almora gardens to enjoy!
Part of our Blue Mountains golf weekend deal is that there is just a little bit of “Mummy”time built in. We left it a little late this year, and managed to squeeze in a visit to the Leura Festival Markets while the Munchkins were bundled off to the Three Sisters.
Leura has a very inspirational designer shopping strip. Interiors, homewares and designer stationery stores sit side by side with day spas and coffee shops. Throw in the markets packed with unique artisan and hand made goodies, and we were in shopping heaven!
Ahhh I can still smell that mountain air!
